Hi Everyone, this is the Young Minds Matter crowd, we have been very busy in the last few months training up two new groups of recruits for our project. They are from Millfield and Pennywell / South Hylton and are aged 13 to 16. They are both very noisy groups and love all the ice breaking activities we do. Some of the training has been completed and the new members are looking at what they think mental health is and also learning about discrimination but we still have lots to do. Kayleigh and Sarah have just taken a group of young people away camping in the lakes and were amused when the young people aged 15 to 18 were stressing about no mobile phone reception and no pool tables or pub, then they settled to camp life and they had some great discussions, talking about personal issues to each other and listening to each other, they survived the rain and had a great time in the lake. We are now busy planning some outdoor activities for team building and the young people themselves have wrote an action plan of how they want their training to run. Millfield group want to go to South Shields fair and to Flamingoland and are doing a quiz on busting the myths around safe sex. The Pennywell / South Hylton group want to go scuba diving and quading and are going to do a Teen pregnancy course with simulation pregnancy pads and babies recording their feelings throughout the course. Shall keep you all posted.
